David Joseph Gerke

David Joseph Gerke, 80, of Surprise, Arizona passed away January 28, 2026. David was the eldest child of seven children born to Patricia Epps and Merrill Gerke. David is survived by a daughter, and son in law, a long-time partner, three sisters and two brothers.

David was a high school graduate of St Augustine High School in San Diego and eventually earning a masters degree in Accounting from Webster University. David had a stellar career in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Master Sergeant .

During his time in the military he was awarded the prestigious Cheney Award for heroism during peacetime. David in his spare time enjoyed tennis and golf. He won numerous individual events in both sports. David’s passion was for baseball and his hometown San Diego Padres. He rarely missed a game on television.

For his heroics in earning the Cheney Award and prestigious Airman Medals, David will be buried in Arlington Cemetery.
