David Neil Johnson

David Neil Johnson, age 75, passed away on September 7, 2026. He was born February 23, 1951, in Fairfield, Alabama, the middle child of seven children born to Dr. Clifford and Hazel Johnson. He graduated from the University of Akron with degrees in Chemical Technology and Business Management.

David spent his entire career in chemical manufacturing, specifically within the plastics manufacturing, compounding, and masterbatch sector. He worked as a color matcher for A. Schulman in Akron, Ohio, and Leglo Color in Huron, Ohio, and later served as Laboratory Manager for Clariant Corp in Strasburg, Virginia. A distinguished member of the Society of Plastic Engineers in the Firelands, Ohio Chapter, David brought steady dedication to his work and earned the respect of those who knew him.

In 2018, David retired with his wife, Diane, to Surprise, Arizona. A beloved and cherished husband, father, and grandfather, he was known for a kind-hearted spirit that made others feel at ease. He carried a warm and inviting smile, and he never knew a stranger—meeting the world with genuine openness and quiet grace.

David was a great piano player who began playing at the age of eight, a gift he carried throughout his life. He was also a member of St Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Surprise, Arizona.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane Linehan Johnson; daughter Traci (Nate) of Dillon, Colorado; grandchildren Josie Speerstra of Dillon, Colorado; son Dan’s widow Sally Makamson and grandchildren Violet and Ryan Makamson of Moscow, Idaho; siblings Cliff III (Angela) of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, Steve(Henny) of Hudson, Ohio, Allen (Doreen) of Navarre, Florida, Carol (Doug) of Hudson, Ohio, and Michael of Huntersville, North Carolina; as well as nieces and nephews and friends that will cherish his memory forevermore.

He was preceded in death by son Daniel Johnson of St. Maries, Idaho, and brother Gary (Leonette) of Bedford, Ohio.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation to American Heart Association or National Kidney Association would be appreciated.
