David "Ross" Kavanaugh was born to Barbara and David Kavanaugh on April 5th, 1946, in Austin, Texas, joining brother Harry and Sister Maggie. Less than two years later sister Carrole joined the family.
Having relocated frequently throughout his grade school years, the family eventually settled in Ballard, Washington, where he met best friend and partner in shenanigans John Eacker. John, wife Ilene, and daughter Leena remained dear friends the rest of his life.
After graduating high school, with the specter of the draft hanging in the air, Ross decided to follow in his dad's footsteps and enlist in the Navy.
Not long after enlisting, his family welcomed baby sister Jennifer to the family, whom he met while on leave in December of 1965.
While waiting for a slot in Communications tech training, he was deployed as one of the crew of a ship known as an "LSD", or Landing Ship Dock, which was positioned off the mouth of the Mekong river in Vietnam. Later, after completing his communications training, he was assigned to the Naval Communications station near Subic Bay in the Philippines. Where he remained for the bulk of the remained of his enlistment.
After discharge from the Navy, he spent some time adjusting to the cultural upheaval that had transformed the US in his absence. He visited sister Maggie and husband "Bal" Balducci in Port Angeles, and eventually relocated there, working with Bal.
Bal and Maggie split, and Bal married Kathy. The joke became that when Maggie and Ball split, Bal got custody of Ross, and when he and Kathy married, Kathy got the brother she never had... or wanted. Close friendships were further forged when the three of them shared a common interest in the Port Angeles Community Theater. Ross often fondly remembered his role as Renfield in "Dracula" as one of his favorites.
When Bal and Kathy welcomed twin sons Anthony and Christopher, they often referred to him as "Ankle Ross". He had many fond memories and funny stories of them growing up.
In the 1990s, BJ became a member of the Players, treading the boards regularly. It took awhile and a subtle hint for a shy Ross to ask her out. It didn't take long for a bond to form that was unmistakable by any who met them. They married August 9th, 1997, and were often referred to as "joined at the hip".
In 2019 BJ retired and plans began for a move to Arizona. Covid delayed the move until Fall of 2021. They settled in Sun City West to enjoy their golden years in the sun and warmth.
Ross was an avid reader, a science fiction fan, lover of classic cars, a sports fan, a cat whisperer, a good and kind person, and a faithful friend with a quick sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents Barbara and David, brother Harry Kavanaugh, sister Margaret "Maggie" McQueen. and sister Carrole Ayers. He is survived by sister Jennifer Kavanaugh, several nieces and nephews, and by his wife, BJ, who loves and misses him dearly.
