Douglas Eugene Lahood, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, in Surprise, Arizona.
Born on June 10, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, Doug shared a lifelong love story with his wife, Sandy, whom he first met in kindergarten. They later married and shared 64 remarkable years together.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sandy; daughters Lisa (Paul) and Lynn (Troy); grandchildren Jacob (Carrie), Adam, Boston, Marley (Ryne), and Corey; and great-grandchildren Dylan, Tatum, Jemma, Chanel, Iris, and Carmen.
Doug was the ultimate car guy — a true enthusiast, collector, and craftsman. Over the years, he wore many hats: mechanic, gas station owner, Service Advisor at Lou Grubb, and founder of Labat Systems, through which he brought practical automotive education to dealerships, the Alhambra School District, and the wider community. His passion for teaching extended to television, where he hosted Under the Hood with Doug Lahood, and to the classroom, as an instructor at Universal Technical Institute. Doug and Sandy also owned and operated La Limousine, serving the Valley with pride and professionalism.
A proud patriot and civic-minded man, Doug sought to serve his country despite being unable to enlist due to flat feet — something that always stayed with him. Determined to contribute, he joined the Phoenix Police Reserves, where he took on some of the city’s toughest assignments. Though he was asked several times to join the department full-time, he chose instead to serve as a volunteer, giving back to his community in his own steadfast way.
Doug was known for his gift of gab — he never met a stranger he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. His humor, warmth, and way with words led him to become a proud member of Toastmasters, and his business integrity was reflected through his long-time membership with the Better Business Bureau.
An artist at heart, Doug enjoyed sketching, painting, and welding unique creations from nuts, bolts, and discarded car parts. He branded his artwork as Metal in Motion. A man of principle, curiosity, and generosity, he was always ready to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or tell a story that made you laugh — or think.
Thank you, Doug, for the adventures you brought to our family. With you, life was never dull. You are loved and will be missed.
