Arizona.
Gary Mynar, 74, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2025 with his wife and daughters at his side. He was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, on September 20th, 1951 to John and Lois Mynar and spent 55 years in Michigan before splitting his time between Broomfield, Colorado and Surprise, Arizona. Gary married his wife, Sally, in 1975.
Gary spent 30 years as an engineer with General Motors—though he’d tell you his true calling came later in life: perfecting the art of retirement. Lover of M&Ms and his afternoon nap, Gary was most known for the ever-present scent of his pipe, which he could be found enjoying, even on his daily walks, much to the delight of everyone who passed by. He had a gift for making people laugh, often pretending to be grumpy just to get a reaction, and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Gary made friends everywhere wherever he went, from cheering from the sidelines at his grandkids’ games to chatting with strangers around town.
A passionate photographer, Gary was rarely seen without a camera slung around his neck. He and his wife, Sally, were avid travelers, exploring countries far and wide. Each trip resulted in thousands of photos and months of meticulous editing for Gary—proof that every adventure was worth reliving, one picture at a time.
Gary was proud of his nearly 18 years of sobriety and the many friendships he found in the AA community. His deep commitment was an inspiration as he quietly supported many others on their own paths to recovery.
Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years and favorite travel partner, Sally Mynar (Page); daughters Paige Marchi (Steve) and Shawn Mynar (Kristin Burkholder); and four grandchildren, Max, Miles, Liv, and Brynn (children of Paige and Steve), who adored their Grandpa; and his sister Jan Larson (Ted).
