A proud U.S. Army veteran, George worked for more than 30 years at Western Textile. He was an avid sports fan who loved talking sports with friends, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and attending Arizona Cardinals football games. He also completed six marathons. George had a zest for life and was surrounded by many great family members and friends.
He is survived by his caring and loving partner of 37 years, Ermelinda Valde, his son, Andrew Karonis, the mother of his son and former spouse, Joanne Karonis, daughter-in-law Allison, his cherished grandson, George W. Karonis, and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his sister Sophia Bolos (Karonis) and his brother-in-law George Bolos.
Services for George will be on Tuesday, September 22 starting with visitation from 9:30-10:30 at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago at 601 S. Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60644. There will be a church service immediately following visitation and then George will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery at 2905 N. Thatcher Ave, River Grove, IL 6 0171. There will be a lunch immediately following at The Blossom Café at 8349 W Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL 60706.
