NESBIT, George Michael "Mike", 72, passed away on April 6th, 2017 at the Surprise, Arizona Hospice of the Valley Pallative Care Unit surrounded by his wife and children after a 25 year battle with Type II Diabetes. He leaves his wife of 51 Super Bowls, Charlotte (Stajduhar) of Surprise, AZ; his daughter Michelle Lehman (Steven) of Peoria, AZ; son Nathan (Tracy) of Merrill, IA; Grandsons Braeden Lehman and Colton and Eli Nesbit; Siblings Judy Fortea (Jim), Patrick Nesbit (Paula), Sam Nesbit (Jodi), and Rhonda Rother (Mike), as well as a large and much-loved extended family. A long-time resident of Granite City, IL, he spent his retirement in Surprise, AZ. He is predeceased by son John Alan, parents Thomas and Mary Sue and brother Thomas. Mike served as a Navy Seabee during two tours of Viet Nam (67-69), and delighted in teaching Vietnamese Navy members English with the help of Playboy Magazine. He was most proud of the Hoa Khana Children's Hospital he helped construct in Danang during his tour. He was a 28-year veteran of the Granite City, IL Fire Department and International Association of Fire Fighters Local 253. He retired as Captain in 2001. He also continued the family cement finishing legacy with his business, "Mike's Concrete". He kept busy in retirement as a Guest Service Representative at Gila River Arena and rooting for "St. Louis Cardinals" Football and St. Louis Baseball teams, the Arizona Coyotes Hockey team and his grandson's teams. Services to honor his life have been scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, 2017. The Visitation will be held from 9: 00 AM - 11:00 AM at Surprise Funeral Care, in the Chapel, 16063 W Bell Rd. Surprise, AZ 85374.The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clare of Assisi, 17111 W Bell Rd., Surprise, AZ 85374, and Military Honors will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N.
