Gertrudes Villamor Ferrer
November 15, 1924 – August 31, 2019
Gertrudes Villamor Ferrer was born on November 15, 1924 in Manila, Philippines to Segundo and Ignacia Villamor, and was the eldest of her 8 siblings. When she was 20 years old, she married Jose Ferrer on June 8th. Together they had 5 children – Annie, Jimmy, Ding, Lennie, and Joel. In 1978, Gertrudes left the Philippines and immigrated to the United States. She moved to Illinois to be with her eldest daughter, Annie, and worked for a time at the Solo Cup factory while there. A few years later, they all made their way to the Bay Area, California where they settled in Vallejo. While in the Bay Area, “Nanay” worked for a bit at a nursing home before she decided to help her children with their growing families. She kept active running after her grandchildren and cooking for her family in between her daily morning calisthenics and evening prayers. She was a simple woman who was always concerned for everyone’s happiness. She wanted to make sure her loved ones were always cared for so, she prayed every day and went to church as often as possible. It was this devotion to God that she passed onto her grandchildren, teaching them how to pray and be thankful for life’s blessings. Gertrudes was a strong woman who overcame many obstacles in life but she went in peace and now will join her loved ones, especially her husband Jose and daughter Annie.
