Gladys Carolyn Jenkins

Gladys Carolyn (Roy) JENKINS, age 86, of Goodyear, Arizona passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020. Gladys was born November 20, 1933. She was one of six children born to parents James and Murell Roy in Gary, Indiana. She is preceded in death by siblings - Reuben Roy, James Roy, Phyllis Clark, Cleta Davis, and Charles Roy.

Gladys was a member of the Roosevelt High School graduating class of 1951. She attended nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Gladys began her nursing career at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana where she served 20 years prior to retiring. She would go on to continue her career with The Gary Health Department, Visiting Nurse Association of Northwest Indiana, as well as Wildwood and Westside Nursing Homes in Gary, Indiana.

Gladys was a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Charles L. Emery where she served as an usher. She was an active member of the Roosevelt Senior Exercise Group. She enjoyed visiting casinos and traveling with her brother Reuben Roy and life long friend of 70 years, Bernice Standifer. Bernice and Gladys were inseparable. You never saw one without the other close by. Gladys relocated to Goodyear, Arizona in early 2019 to be closer to family.

Gladys is survived by her loving sons Roger Wesley(Sandra) Omaha, NE; James E. Jenkins III (LaDonna) Montgomery, AL.; Kenneth R. Jenkins (Angela)- Goodyear, AZ. She had 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was an intelligent, sweet, gentle woman who inspired and touched the lives of many. She was loved and will be missed by all.

A memorial service for Gladys will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85374.
