James Howard Aubuchon, Sr., 82, passed away Saturday April 26, 2025 in Surprise, AZ, surrounded by love and an Italian Ice party. He was born April 14, 1943, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Grover and Kelsie (Oakley) Aubuchon. Howard, as he was affectionately called, was the youngest of 5 children. At just six months old, the Aubuchon family headed West to California looking for greater possibilities and this is where he would spend a good portion of his life.
In 1960 he married Marilyn Carr and together they had four children, James, John, Julie, and Brian.
Dad worked as a carpenter until a serious injury led him to change course into the fast growing field of computers where he prospered for many years. He excelled in multiple phases of this industry…college teacher, writing software, business owner, software sales, etc.
In 1970 his marriage ended and later a new lifelong relationship with Sandra Spross began. He married Sandy in 1972 and in 1980 they welcomed his fifth child, Lindsey.
Jim lived life to the fullest and on his own terms making friends wherever he went along the way. He loved to travel and was able to achieve that through business and personal aspects of his life. Jim dove deep into many hobbies throughout the years such as jewelry making, guitar playing, trucking, engraving, ammunition reloading and competitive shooting. He also started several businesses throughout his life including New Generation Software, a long haul trucking enterprise, and Load Right Ammo.
Getting excited about a new endeavor on the horizon kept him young at heart and mentally thriving. A crowning achievement was creating a patent-pending invention at 80 years old that has impressed many in the ammunition reloading world. Jim was a problem solver at heart and genuinely interested in what his children and grandchildren were doing. He was happy to help them whether it was starting a business of their own, home remodeling, farming, or any problem they had. There was never any doubt that he deeply loved us all very much and he will be greatly missed by us all.
He is survived by his children, James (Sara) Aubuchon, John Aubuchon, Julie (Shawn) Lenz, Brian (Denell) Aubuchon, and Lindsey Jones. Also, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Clifford (June) Aubuchon and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandy, his parents Grover and Kelsie Aubuchon, siblings and their spouses Charles (Frankie) Aubuchon, Bobbie (Eulah) Aubuchon, and Geneva (Kenny) Jensen.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 21st at one of James Howard Sr.'s favorite places, Dinkey Creek Shaver Lake, CA, starting at 11:00am. Please bring a picnic lunch, a chair, and any memories you would like to share. There will be snacks and drinks provided as well.
