

Jerry Dale Gaines, a beloved and adventurous soul, passed away on January 14, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on September 26, 1948, in Glendale, Arizona, Jerry was the cherished son of Floyd and Ola. As an Arizona native, he spent his early years enjoying sports with his nine siblings in the heat of the copper state. At the age of 19, after graduating high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army.
During his military service, Jerry served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and several other honors for his dedicated service. His title as Sergeant was of great importance to him.
Jerry's personal life was marked by a loving marriage to his wife Rosemarie, whom he met through a neighbor. Their enduring companionship spanned 57 years, filled with cherished children and a life of shared joys.
Known for his humorous and resilient nature, Jerry loved staying active, fishing, and pranking family members. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and found fulfillment in coaching. Gaines Park, named after his father and dedicated to the city of Surprise, Arizona, held a special place in Jerry's heart, as he considered it a "holy ground."
Jerry is remembered as funny, giving, hard-working, and a man of his word. His legacy continues in the hearts of his spouse, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends, and all who had the privilege to meet him.
