John Cooper Owens

It is with profound love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Cooper Owens, age 83, of Surprise, Arizona on July 18, 2026.

He was born in Defuniak Springs, Florida on August 12, 1942 to John D. And Jane Cooper Owens. He attended Graceville (Florida) High School, graduating in 1960.

He had a long-term career in the trucking industry before opening up his own landscaping business later in life in McDonough, Ga. He recently moved to Surprise, Az with his wife, Margaret, to be closer to family.

His lifelong passion was following and cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He also loved to hunt and fish with his friends in South Georgia.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Margaret Rentz Owens, and his children Amy Shaw (Melvin) and Matt Owens (Kelly), and stepchildren Lisa Williams (Todd) and Lori Van Farowe (Jim). Together, he was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Beth Owens Deluzain.

John Cooper was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be sorely missed.
