Jay and I got to England about the same time so we really didn’t know anyone. Every Friday night we would grab a big ass ribeye steak and a potato and hook that up and have a couple of drinks and watch blood in blood out lol. This is kind of a secret but we would also freestyle rap and I’m gonna be honest as much as I love you Sal, you sucked lol I used to demolish you 😂 but I’ll let you get away with Telling me you were better because you were prettier than me and It didn’t matter because I thought you were the coolest dude ever… still do. As far as the cabrera household goes, you are alive and well In our conversation and in the spirit of our home. I miss you bud. We all do. If heaven is real I know it’s lookin clean and spiffy with you there. See you again one day. ❤️❤️❤️💯love you bro

I’m sorry it’s taken awhile to speak up on here. The finality of your transition this platform forces me to recognize has been hard to face. Been on your FB instead. The word count here is too limiting, read your FB from heaven for the rest.
For many years I have been  vigilant not letting new love in. The life I’ve set up does not allow me to survive with such vulnerability.  But then there was you… So raw, so real, so open-hearted, warm and welcoming from the start.  I, in turn broke my walls down to let all of you flood into my life. You wanted to make me feel special. Mission accomplished...This budding love. 
You were so genuine, sweet, and strong. I miss your pepper and salt  hair, that ridiculous infectious laugh, that phrase you spoke in Spanish when you were blushing hard...I wish there had been more time to figure out what the heck you were saying that sounded so sweet and enticing. Miss that “go get it”, “keep going” spirit you encouraged. I miss talking all day and night about everything and nothing, getting to know my new best friend. 
You have changed me. You checked so many boxes, yet challenged me to stretch my preconceived notions of the ideal relationship, to let go and be vulnerable. I was so excited making plans with you for the future come what may. 
JD you felt deeply, often wearing your emotions on your sleeve, while at other times a world away - contemplating, reflecting, appreciating, perhaps regretting.  All you needed was for the dust to settle as you redefined your identity in the civilian world. Your humility was your trademark. 
You resurrected a phrase once held dear to me, “ ride or die”. Well JD, I’m gonna continue to ride for you, lifting up your name every chance I get.  Thank you for my combat gifts , my angels, and Cardinals. I can’t wait to celebrate you with your fam.

The world was blessed with your guiding spirit for 40 years, and there are hundreds of people that are better for having known you, me included. You lived through more in your brief life than many of us may ever dream of, good and bad. I think that made you the extraordinary man that I met, gracing others with positivity and encouragement.

You were my other half, my protector, my partner. Our energy and passion was stronger than either one of us could handle at times, but our love was undeniable.  You will forever hold your own place in my heart. You will live on in my memory forever. You taught me so much about life, and I am so sorry I didn't see that until it was too late to thank you.  I finally tried to tell you, but you were gone. 

I am trying to find solace in the fact that you are finally reunited with your grandma Jovita and your uncle Craig. And Fawn. You deserved everything, and the world was not enough.

Rest in peace, Jay. Finally rest your soul. You more than earned it.

I am sharing some good times. My heart is broke enough not having you here man. DUDE....The times we would have some drinks watch Blood in Blood Out and have freestyle rap battles LOL. The time you tried to fight a squad of British dudes walking home from the pub because yo self threw up your hands in the air when they drove by lol. You gave me the nickname porno Rob and then changed it to Gordo Rob LOL. You are kind, confident, stupid, loving, mean, GREAT, loyal...You get it..I could go on...The bottom line is you are amazing...Screw the word WERE..YOU STILL EXIST in our hearts, memories and soul my dude. I love you, you already know this...I told you on March 6. you're my boy blue. I don't want to stop typing because I feel like I am talking to you man. Love you bud. Dear JD, 

            I recently saw the movie, "Onward" the  other day. After seeing it, I would definitely be using that spell right now.  I would use it, even if it was just for one day,  to tell you how much I'm going to miss you and am sorry that we will not be able to make up for all the lost time with our relationship like we had wanted.  But, although life kept us apart for most of our lives,  I always found comfort knowing you were my big brother and I will forever keep you in my heart.

My stepson J as he would ask me to call him will be surely missed.  He would come over to my home in Romeoville and we would sit at my kitchen table  and talk for hours.  My son Carlos & I we’re reminiscing about all of us, my daughter Christina , Ceci, JoJo,  Julian & I about visiting him & Desiree and we made s’mores in their back yard fire pit and talked & laughed for hours.  J you are loved✝️

Sal has always had a special place in my heart.  He was unmistakably the brightest light in any room.  First met Sal in 2016 when he brought me back into the USAF Resilience program...ever since then, any time he was part of my day he was the best part of my day.
Irreplaceable.  He will always be missed with a smile, tears, and a smile.  Sal would expect nothing less and honestly, deserves far more.
