Kathy was born on March 27, 1975, in Washington, D.C., to Gloria and James. She was later raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she attended Doherty High School and graduated in 1993. She went on to pursue her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Bethel School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1998.
Kathy began her nursing career as an emergency department nurse at Memorial Hospital. Over the next 28 years, she devoted herself to the nursing profession, working in a variety of healthcare settings and caring for countless patients along the way. She ultimately found her true passion in Labor and Delivery, where her compassion, dedication, and genuine love for helping others could shine. Her exceptional care and commitment to her patients earned her a DAISY Award, an international recognition honoring nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate care.
Throughout Kathy’s life, caring for others was at the heart of who she was. Nursing was never simply a career for her—it was a calling. She gave countless years of her life to helping people through some of their most vulnerable moments, offering comfort, compassion, kindness, and reassurance when they needed it most. Her caring heart and willingness to help others were a true reflection of the beautiful person she was.
Outside of her career, Kathy found joy in the simple things that made life special. She was a passionate Golden State Warriors fan and loved cheering on her team. Music also held a special place in her heart, and few things brought her more happiness than listening to her favorite singer, Kane Brown.
One of Kathy’s greatest companions was her beloved dog, Bella, who passed away in March. Kathy and Bella shared many quiet and precious moments together, including sitting by the window and watching the hummingbirds. Those simple moments were a reflection of Kathy’s ability to find beauty and happiness in the world around her.
Above all else, Kathy was a mother. Her love for her children was immeasurable, and being their mother was one of the most important parts of her life. Her unexpected passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Though her time with us was far too short, the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the countless memories she created will remain forever.
Kathy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
She is survived by her daughter, Kaitlyn, and son, Austin; her parents, James and Gloria; and many other beloved family members and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Connie and Phil; her maternal grandparents; and her paternal uncle, Bobby.
A private family viewing will be held on October 7, 2026, at Surprise Funeral Home, prior to Kathy’s cremation. Additional services will be announced at a later date.
May Kathy’s memory live on in every life she touched, every person she cared for, and every heart she filled with love.
