A Life of Love, Strength, and Resilience
Kim Michele Gwaltney’s life journey began on January 17, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born to parents Horace Gwaltney and Ruth Valentine, and was the second youngest of 7 brothers and sisters.
Kim was educated in the public schools of Baltimore, MD and was in the first graduating class of 1974 at Southwestern High School. In these youthful years she met, and later married her childhood sweetheart, Earl Medlin. Their union blessed them with three children: Shawn Medlin, Damien Medlin, and Kiamber Medlin.
Kim began working with Maryland American Red Cross before she and Earl relocated to Phoenix Arizona with their children. While the distance was far from home; Kim, Earl, and their children often went back to visit their family in Baltimore.
Kim was a loving, strong, and resilient woman. Her energy, smile, and laugh were infectious, and brought so much joy to all of those around her. Her love for fashion draped her from head to toe, from her stylish eyewear to her extraordinary clothing and shoe collection.
In recent years, Kim experienced health complications but through perseverance, determination, and unwavering love for her family, Kim expressed ‘there are things I still want to see’ as she was able to attend her first grandson’s high school graduation in 2019.
Sadly, Kim passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, comforted by family in Arizona. She was a proud mother and grandmother and leaves behind countless memories that will forever be treasured in the hearts of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her Father Horace Gwaltney; Mother Ruth Valentine; Sister Elizabeth Valentine; Brother Victor Gwaltney; Brother Kevin Valentine. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her loving family; husband Earl Medlin; son Shawn Medlin (wife Kenyetta Medlin); son Damien Medlin; daughter Kiamber Medlin; Three sisters, Nellie McManus, Deborah Banks-Gilliam, and Niecy Gwaltney; Three sisters-in-law; Dorothy Young, Elizabeth Gregg, and Darlene Walker (husband Barney Walker); Three grandsons; Shaikim Medlin, Tyriek Medlin, and Jaylen Medlin, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
