Larry was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Henry and Martha Maynard. He was the youngest of their four children, evening the boy to girl ratio.
After he graduated high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force. He spent many years stationed in the Philippines, quickly making friends with the locals who taught him how to speak their native language of Tagalic.
Larry was actively involved in the Masonic Temple, where he rose to be the youngest Master of his Lodge. He was a devoted Christian; a Godly man who was generous and valued integrity.
Larry worked as an accomplished entrepreneur, retiring from IBM after 25 years of employment.
As a way to help with the exorbitant cost of his daughter’s college, he started his own successful pool cleaning company in Surprise, Arizona, Tide Water Blue.
Larry had many hobbies including long-distance bicycle riding, boating, snow skiing, and fishing. He was a tremendous billiard player with strategic shots, focus, and knowledge of the game. He enjoyed teaching others and once coached his sister, Nancy, to a Gold Medal in the Senior Olympics in Sun City West.
Larry loved animals, and animals loved him too. He had several dogs, a couple birds, and saved a few strays over the years.
He was a beloved husband who cherished his wife. He was a doting father, who always put his children first. An amazing grampy who loved to hear his grandbabies laugh. A kindhearted, loving uncle, a friendly neighbor, and a genuine friend. Overall, Larry adored spending time with family, friends, and neighbors.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda, and three children; Dave and wife Lisa, Lauren and husband Ryan Petersen, and Lyndsi and partner Cameron Fletcher. His grandkids, Autumn, Hannah, Lief, Finnley, Meadow, Lars, and Lillee. His great-grandchild, Grace. Vaughn and Liam, which considered Larry their bonus grampy. Linda's brother, Roger Williams. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends near and far.
His father, Henry, mother, Martha, brother Arvie, and two sisters, Nancy and Diane, preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank the doctor and staff at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona for the genuine care and compassion they showed in his final days. Not only were they attentive to their patients, but also to the patient’s families. Our family is truly grateful for their support.
