Maria de Lourdes (Lulu) Roberts, 66, of Surprise, Arizona passed away on July 6, 2022, at Banner Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Arizona. She was born April 6, 1956, in El Paso, Texas to Ygnacio and Elisa Compean.
Maria attended Irvin High School in El Paso, Texas and was a member of the JROTC program. She moved throughout the southern United States with her family until retiring from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection after 32 years of honorable federal service. While working for the Department of Homeland Security, she worked at the Embassy in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico as well as Preclearance in Aruba.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She took the role of Grandma/Gma very seriously. She loved horses, her Yorkie Terriers, spending time near bodies of water, the outdoors, reading and cooking for family and friends. She was spontaneous and was willing to try just about anything at least one time.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband L.A. Valenciano, brothers Valentin Compean, Carlos Compean and Luis Compean. She is survived by her husband Donald H. Roberts, daughter Lourdes “Angi” Aiello (Rob) of York, South Carolina, Luis “Tony” Valenciano II (Ashley) of Buda, Texas, brother Ignacio Compean (Cindy) of Salinas, California, sisters Margarita Hernandez (Cesar) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Rosa Estep (Dwayne) of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Elisa Compean of Campbell, California and Susan Gutierrez (Raymond) of Grand Prairie, Texas; 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Maria will be held 10AM on Wednesday, July 13th, 2022. At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. 19002 N 128th Ave. Sun City West, Arizona 85375
