

Michael Bernard Recker, age 77, passed away at his home in Sun City West, Arizona on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Born in Detroit on November 26, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents; Bernard and Bernice Recker and his son Troy. He is survived by his wife, Susan, loving daughter Trudy May (James) of Howell, Michigan, son Edward Fortin (Kari) of Westerville, Ohio and 7 grandchildren. Mike was raised in Howell, Michigan and graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1962. He had been employed as a Livingston County Sheriff Deputy for 10 years. His duties included Jail and Road Patrol, Special Assignment in the Detective Bureau, undercover narcotics working with the Michigan State Police on the Washtenaw Area Narcotics Team (WANT). In 1980 Mike joined the Washtenaw County Sheriff Department as Sergeant in Charge of Court Security until his retirement in April 1997. He received various awards during his career which included 1974 Medal and Citation for Valor and Bravery and 1976 Officer of the Year. Following his retirement, he was employed by Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff Department as a Court Officer for five years. Mike’s one passion was the University of Michigan football team. During the reign of head coach Bo Schembechler, he was selected to be part of Bo’s security detail which included home games and some away games. In the Michigan locker room, there is a wall mural of Bo headed out to the field with Mike right behind him. Mike is going to be missed by all whom knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:00 am at Surprise Funeral Care 16063 W Bell Rd. Surprise, Arizona.
