

Myong immigrated to the United States from Korea with her mother and brother. She became a proud United States citizen in 1978. She married Michael Phelan in 1984. She dedicated many years of service to Astronautics Corporation of America and Kohler Co. before her retirement. Following the passing of her beloved husband, she relocated from Wisconsin to Arizona to enjoy retirement.
Myong will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She lived a life centered on love and caring for others. She held a strong faith in God, and church was an important and guiding presence throughout her life.
She found joy in spending time with family, friends, playing cards, sharing laughter and participating in yoga. Her generosity, resilience, and warm spirit touched all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Phelan, and her parents, Im Dae Kwak and Sun Yi Kwak (Kim). She is lovingly survived by her mother-in-law, Colleen Phelan; her children, David (Shari) Phelan, Sandy (former husband Andy) Koch, and Jill (Erik) Beaty; her grandchildren, Nicole (Riley) Phelan, Alex (Mercisadies) Phelan, Sara (Colton) Persha, Evan Koch, Sophia Koch, Karson Beaty, and Samuel Beaty; her great-granddaughter, Layla Persha; her sister, Myung Sook Kwak (Kap Jun Yoon), her brother, Seyong (Myong) Kwak, her brother, Chulyong (Sung Lim) Kwak; and nieces and nephews, Jeawon Yoon, Ji Hye Yoon, Jiwon Yoon, Jung Hyun Yoon, Mina Lunsmann (Kwak), Kim Michelle Kwak, and Edwin Kwak.
Myong’s life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Funeral Service will be held at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85374, US, on March 20, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
