Paul graduated from Loyola Academy in 1956 and Loyola University, Chicago in 1960. His Catholic faith remained a constant, and he was actively involved in his Catholic Churches in various states during his lifetime—quietly faithful, consistently present, and deeply committed to what mattered most to him.
Paul served six years in the Illinois Air National Guard, including active duty in the Regular Air Force for basic training and tech school for Airborne Radio Repair. He brought the same disciplined independence and reliability to his professional life, working for the Hoover Company in North Canton, Ohio for 29 years. He retired in 1995 as National Service Manager, closing a long career marked by diligence, responsibility, and pride in doing things the right way. After retirement, he spent time living in Texas, North Carolina, and Arizona to be near children and grandchildren.
In 1961, Paul married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dee” Kralka. He was widowed in 1994. He is survived by three of his four children: sons, Mark Koster (Kris), Dan Koster; daughter Karen Domabyl (Joe) and preceded in death by daughter, Mary Catherine. He is also survived by grandchildren, Teegan Balfour (Michael), Jessica Koster, Jonathan Koster, Lexie Domabyl, Joe Domabyl, Jake Domabyl and Grace Domabyl.
Paul found joy in the things that carried history, craftsmanship, and rhythm. He loved Big Band music and classic cars, and restored a 1967 Mustang—earning awards at various car shows. He was a member of The Northeastern Ohio Regional Mustang Club and served as a member of the annual Car Show Committee. A huge college football fan, he held a lifelong love of Notre Dame. He also adored his Golden Retriever, Ziggy, and later in life loved his daughter’s Golden Retriever, Hammy.
Paul gave generously of his time and talents in service to others. He volunteered and donated time extensively throughout his lifetime, including Meals on Wheels, tape recording lessons and books for Special Education students, producing and recording radio shows for the visually impaired, serving on the Board of Directors for Chisholm Trail RSVP of Denton County, Texas, and teaching ESL for Christian Community Action in Lewisville, Texas. He was also a member of the Lewisville, Texas Rotary Club. In all of it, he showed a steady, hardworking spirit—one that did not seek attention, but simply believed in showing up and helping.
Those who knew Paul will remember not only his devotion to anything connected to his Catholic faith, but also the small, telling habits that revealed his character: the care he took in making tape recordings of his favorite Big Band compositions, the pleasure he found in listening daily, and the meticulous way he stayed organized—often punctuated by his familiar refrain, “document, document, document!” Above all, he will be missed for his dry sense of humor and quick wit.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Parish, 14818 W Deer Valley Dr, Sun City West, AZ 85375, US, on July 14, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the inpatient staff at Hospice of The Valley in Surprise, Arizona. Their compassion and professional care were unmatched and greatly appreciated.
