

A beloved generous and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, partner, and friend. Randy was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Gudgel) Crook. Barbara passed away after a long illness. Randy, always by her side, was her primary caregiver until she passed away in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Richard Wayne Crook.
Randy and Barbara had two sons. Randy is survived by sons, Jeffrey (Donna) Crook; Christopher (Francine) Crook; granddaughters Amy, Lilly, Haley, and Grace; sister Pat Crook; brother Michael (DeeDee) Crook; and many nieces and nephews.
He attended, Drake University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in1963, Western New England University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Management in 1973. Randy entered the USAF in 1963, rising to Lt. Col. in 1980. Randy proudly served as a Navigator aboard a B-52 Bomber, Navigator Instructor, Flight Commander, and Mission Develpment. During his USAF career he was involved in over 200 missions. He was honorably discharged/retired in 1989 while at Beale AFB in California as Air Operations Officer for the Blackbird, SR-71. During his career in the Air Force he was presented several awards, Distinguished Flying Cross; Meritorious Service Medal, 1 Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC); Air Medal, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze OLC; Small Arms Expert, to name just a few.
Randy passed all sections of the CPA examine his first attempt, a testament to his dedication and determination. He continued operating his accounting practice up until earlier this year. Randy was always available to his clients and he answered countless tax questions for anyone that would call.
He was an avid traveler, going on countless vacations with his family, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, California, Europe, Greece, Italy, and many other places. The most recent trip in December 2025 was to South America and rounding Cape Horn. Randy was always up for a new adventure. He always said yes and he never complained. He was quite the trooper when traveling with his granddaughters to Disney World and Disneyland...multiple times. He was always fun and always had something funny to say. Randy had been an active member of The Grand Singles Club and was treasurer of the Singles Club for many years. He assisted with many positive changes to the club including an ice cream social where he made all the ice cream, unique flavors such as Amaretto Cherry, Fennel, and Avocado Chocolate Chip.
In the later years of his life, he was fortunate to find a loving and devoted companion in Ann McGrath. For nearly eight years they enjoyed traveling, hosting dinner parties, and friendship with so many in Surprise and beyond. Ann was by his side when he took his last breath, the reflection of their devotion to one another and the deep bond they shared. Randy will always be remembered for his kindness, selflessness, wisdom, his easy-going attitude, and humor. We will always love and miss him.
Randy's furry pal was Duke. Duke is in a safe and loving home. We give endless thanks to Duke's new caregiver for accepting Duke into her family.
