Raymond A. McCullough, affectionately known as "Sweet Baby Ray," passed away on October 12, 2026, at the age of 76. He was a lovable teddy bear with a huge heart who gave the best hugs, and he's missed more than he'd ever believe.
Ray was born on April 22, 1950, at Oak Park Hospital to Raymond and Irma McCullough and grew up in Forest Park, Illinois, as the older brother of Danny and Sharon. He spent his career as a truck driver for several companies, including Polk Bros., Breda Moving, and Nabisco (now Mondelez).
Ray was lucky enough to have two great loves in his life. He met Bette Jo in grade school, and the two were sweethearts from then on. She preceded him in death in 2001. In 2005, he met Dawn, and he often said how fortunate he was to find love twice.
He was a lifelong Bears and Cubs fan, which means he knew a thing or two about patience and heartbreak. He loved the Beach Boys and Neil Diamond, and he did the best Donald Duck impression you've ever heard, always happy to perform it on request (and sometimes without one). He also loved a good game of euchre or Texas Hold 'Em, and he was always up for a seat at the table.
Ray was also an organ donor, and his family is hopeful that parts of him will live on in others.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dawn; his sons, Brian, Kevin, and Nathan (Kari); his grandchildren, Shayne (24), Rachael (20), Jaycen (15), Brady (12), and Connor (7); his brother, Danny (Paula); his sister, Sharon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bette Jo, and his parents, Raymond and Irma.
A private service will be held for family. A celebration of life will take place in Illinois at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree or donate to a charity of your choice in his honor.
