Our beloved Robert Day Browner passed away peacefully at the age of
77. He is survived by his family.
He was born in southern Oregon in 1947. In elementary school, Robert
met the love of his life, Jody. They bonded over their love of horses and
their love of each other.
Robert’s life was anything but ordinary. During his high school years, he
played football and worked at various jobs to earn money. After
graduation, Robert and Jody were married, and he joined the Air Force.
While in the Air Force, Robert served a year in Vietnam as a munitions
specialist/military policeman. Upon returning from Vietnam, Robert
continued serving in the Air Force and moved with Jody to southern
California where they were blessed with their first son, David Browner.
Then, following being honorably discharged from the military in 1971,
Robert and Jody returned to Southern Oregon where he became a
Sheriff’s Deputy with Josephine County. While serving the county,
Robert and Jody were blessed with the birth of their second son, Thomas
Browner. Robert was very active in the community, helping with local
fairs and events. In 1979, Robert and his family moved to the southern
coast of Oregon where he ran a restaurant and lounge on the harbor in
Brookings. Shortly afterwards, Robert and Jody moved their family
northwards to Alaska where he began work as a security officer on the
Alaskan pipeline where he served fourteen and a half years.
Then in 1994, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and
made the decision to take a different path with his life. He and Jody left
their jobs and moved to Glennallen to attend Alaska Bible College to get
his bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies. There at the college, Robert
made many friends. He and Jody became missionaries to the college for
three and a half years. Robert served as a relief pastor for the various
churches in the surrounding areas during this time. In March 2003,
Robert and Jody moved to Gulkana where they served at Gulkana
Chapel for ten and a half years helping the community. They were
greatly impacted by the people they met and shared life within the
community.
In 2013, Robert and Jody came out of Alaska to be closer to family in the
lower 48 states. Robert continued his ministry serving as Pastor and
leading Sunday services and Bible studies in the community where they
lived.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Jody Browner, his sons David
Browner (wife Holly Browner) and Thomas Browner, his grandsons
Nathaniel, Benjamin, Joshua and Gabriel, and his granddaughter
Marifrancis Browner. He is survived by his sister Vickie Yeager (Boyd
Yeager). He was preceded in death by his father Homer Browner and his
mother Cleo Browner.
The family asks that donations to Agave Hospice and Palliative Care [email protected] made instead of flowers or other gifts.
