Robert Edward Ziemba

Robert Edward Ziemba, 84, died on August 31, 2026. Born January 23, 1942, he grew up in Buffalo, New York, a place he carried with him in spirit throughout his life. He was a devoted, loyal, and generous man whose steady presence and quiet strength shaped the lives of those who knew him.

After graduating high school, Robert joined the Air Force, beginning a life marked by service and responsibility. Following his military service, he built a long career with IBM, working in various roles across New York and New Jersey before eventually moving to California. In retirement, he and his wife, Susan, traveled the United States in a fifth wheel camper, embracing the freedom of the open road before settling in Surprise, Arizona. Each year they would escape the summer heat by spending their summers in Show Low, Arizona—simple seasons of rest and routine that suited him well.

Known to everyone as Ziggy, he found joy outdoors, especially in hunting and fishing. Ziggy hunted with his son-in-law Jay and treasured time ice fishing with his son Robert and his grandson Ethan. He also brought the same commitment and camaraderie to the softball field, playing on local teams and later serving as a team manager—roles that reflected his reliability and willingness to show up for others.

Ziggy was a gifted storyteller, always ready with an anecdote and a familiar warmth that made people lean in and listen. He appreciated the comforts of everyday life—an afternoon siesta, a favorite meal at Denny’s, and the familiar excitement of cheering on the Buffalo Bills at a local bar. At deer camp, he earned the nickname “Dirty Harry,” a nod to the .44 magnum revolver he carried on his hip and the unmistakable character he brought to those traditions.

He was married to Susan for 59 years, and his devotion was perhaps most clearly seen in the care he gave her through the challenges of dementia, serving as her sole caregiver with steadfast loyalty. He is survived by three children, Robert, Kenneth, and Rebecca; and six grandchildren, Kaileigh, Sarah, Ethan, Sydney, Madeleine, and Jack.
