BRANDT, Roger Dale, 84, of Surprise, Arizona, a United States Air Force Veteran, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at his home in Surprise, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul F. Brandt and Ida Vietzke. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjean Brandt; his loving children, Ryan (Mari) Brandt, Ellen (James) Sutton, and Melissa (David Kurlander) Steever; and his cherished grandchildren, Jared Sutton, Eric Sutton, Nicholas Brandt, Armand Brandt, Gavin Steever, Dominick Brandt, and Meredith Steever. Roger was born in Noonan, North Dakota on March 30, 1934. He graduated from Noonan High School. Roger graduated in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota through the ROTC program. He completed his master’s degree in 1959 from University of North Dakota in Electrical Engineering. He married Marjean Miller on August 8, 1959 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. They moved to Edwards Air Force base in California where he served in the United States Air Force for three years. While at Edwards AFB, he worked on static testing of rockets. After leaving the military, he went to work for the California State University of Los Angeles as a professor of electrical engineering. In addition to teaching, he also worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena working on the space program. He worked at both employers until he retired. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 3:30 PM, at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Rd., Surprise, Arizona, with a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM, a United States Air Force Military Honors Ceremony to commence at 5:00 PM, and a reception immediately following.
