Shirley J Bailey

She was born on June 20, 1935 in Pisgah, IA where she grew up with her parents Charles and Vera Hinkel, and her sister Betty. They moved to Scranton, IA, and then moved to Cherokee, IA when she was in the ninth grade.

She graduated from Wilson High School, Cherokee, IA in 1953.

After high school she worked at the Cherokee State Bank. She then became a housewife and raised her children. She took a job as a bank clerk in Storm Lake, IA for about a year and then moved to Colorado, where she became a personal secretary at the King Ranch. She worked there for several years before moving to Sioux City, IA. Then in 1975 she and her husband bought the Columbine Café in Granby, CO. They operated the restaurant for several years. After selling the restaurant, she became a legal secretary. She had jobs in this profession in Grand Junction, CO, Denver, CO and Chicago, IL. She retired to Chula Vista, CA to be close to her sister. Around 2004, she moved to Hot Springs Village, AR, where she lived until 2023. She then moved to Sun City West, AZ.

She was a follower of Jesus Christ and was actively involved in church, being a prayer coordinator and an Arkansas State Prayer Consultant. She enjoyed being a caregiver. She enjoyed the mountains and nature, including fishing and camping. She loved going on adventures, traveling with her sister and close friend Ruth. Her favorite times were her family gatherings during the holidays.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vera Hinkel, husbands, Bill Carson and Homer Bailey, and grandson, Garrett.

She is survived by her children, Dan, Diane and Debbie, her stepdaughter, Kathy, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and sister, Betty.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at New Hope Fellowship Church, 19424 N. RH Johnson Blvd, Sun City West, AZ 85375, on Saturday, 29 June, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 AM.
