Wilbert Rivers was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 7th, 1932 to parents Jesse Rivers of Oxford, Mississippi and Bertha Calloway Rivers of Birmingham, Alabama. Wilbert went to high school at A. H. Parker high school where he enjoyed learning woodworking in wood shop and singing in the school chorus. His voice led him to be the solo lead tenor in the chorus. He entered the Air Force at the age of 17 in the year 1949 where he began his 24-year service for his country proudly. He served overseas in Japan, Germany and Italy. He met the love of his life Viktoria while serving in Germany and they wed in Miesenbach, Germany on January 23, 1956 where they were married by the mayor of Miesenbach.
He received his associate degree with the Community College of Air Force. During his career with the Air Force, he was recognized for his accomplishments by receiving two Commendation medals. After retiring from the military, he thrived in the finance sector at First Interstate Bank where he became an office manager. He later became the Vice President & Financial Services Manager at Wells Fargo.
Wilbert enjoyed his time most when bowling, listening to his favorite music, and gardening with his wife Viktoria. Wilbert loved dogs and owned over a dozen dogs in his lifetime.
One of Wilbert’s proudest moments in when his wife Viktoria became a United States citizen while they were stationed stateside at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. they renewed their vows on December 26, 1959 at Aviano Air Base Chapel in Aviano, Province of Pordenone, Italy.
He leaves behind his daughter, Karola Williams, grandsons, Nichalos George, Victor Dean, Ryan Williams, granddaughters, Dana Jackson-George, Danine Dean, great grandchildren, Jametri George, Kamrin George, MaKenna Dean, Lincoln Dean, Wesley Jackson, great great grandchild Ezra Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews that he all loved so much.
Wilbert will rest in peace with his beloved wife Viktoria for eternity at Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue in Denver, Colorado. Their love lives on forevermore, together for eternity as they wished.
He is a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Friend and man of his word. His memory lives on in the hearts of all that had the privilege to know him.
