William Loren Phillips, 83, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away on June 17, 2026. Born April 12, 1943, in Jefferson City, Dunklin County, Missouri, William was the son of Gladys and William Phillips. He will be remembered as a beloved and cherished presence—steadfast in loyalty, generous in spirit, and quietly selfless in the ways that matter most.
Affectionately known as Bill, he graduated from Washington High School and carried forward the steady determination and kind-hearted character that would shape the life he built. Those who knew Bill knew a man who showed his care through constancy—through the work he took pride in, the people he stood by, and the everyday ways he made others feel valued.
Bill started his own construction business, a venture that grew into the organization he led as president beginning in 1981. He retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and dependability. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union (PHX) and the Arizona Association of General Contractors, reflecting a lifelong commitment to his craft and to the community of professionals alongside whom he worked.
In December of 1963, Bill married the love of his life, Rita, after first meeting in 1957. Their marriage was a lasting testament to devotion and partnership, and together they welcomed their children, Deborah and Boyden. In the life they shared, Bill’s loyalty and warmth were not spoken of as ideals, but lived as daily practice.
Bill found joy in hunting, fishing, and everything outdoors. He also enjoyed classic cars, and he took pleasure in gardening—interests that reflected a steady appreciation for both craftsmanship and the simple rewards of time spent with the natural world.
His generous heart extended beyond his immediate circle. Bill gave to charities and supported organizations including St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Tunnel and Towers, Wounded Warriors, and Shriner's—quietly offering help where it was needed, guided by compassion and a sense of responsibility to others.
Bill is survived by his wife, Rita Phillips; children, Deborah Nelson and Boyden Phillip; grandchildren, Bryan Nelson, Emily Sapizk, Sarah Phillips, and Megan Phillips; Brother in law, Dewitt Spurling; Cousin, DeWayne Massey; and all family, relatives, and friends who hold his memory close in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85374, US, on June 25, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
