1950 - 2021
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas John Murney on April 12th, 2021. Doug was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, eldest son to John "Jack" and June Murney. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anna "Anne", his siblings Carol McFadden (Walter), Debbie Murney (Harry), Cindy White-Murney (Marvin), Rick Murney (Marryann) and Terri Laidman (Bryan). Doug was a proud father to three sons Robert (Yrol), Chuck (Laura) and Dave (Crystal) as well as his five beloved grandchildren Sarah, John, Chris, Aedan and Rowan and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was a passionate and inquisitive soul that threw himself completely into his family, his love for travel and his varied hobbies. Doug was a strong willed older brother that lived life by example. He knew how to enjoy life and always took the time to share experiences and to get out and explore. Whenever time allowed, he and Anne would take their passion for travel on many memorable trips both abroad and throughout Canada. Known by many for his time with the Barnett Sailing Co-op out of Port Moody, BC, his long time passion for stamp collecting and his devotion to whatever hockey program his children were involved in.
Where there was a party Doug would often be at the center of it & when there was trouble, he would be the first in to assist in any way possible. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
Cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or your charity of choice would be appreciated.
