WALL - Florence Amelia of White Rock passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2025, in her 98th year. Florence was predeceased in 2006 by her beloved husband Art to whom she was married for 60 years. Florence was born in Kelowna but she always said her life began when she married Art in Vancouver on February 14, 1946. They moved to White Rock in 1947 where they opened and operated the first self-serve food market and butcher shop in that community. Florence supported Art’s decision to run for White Rock City Council in 1964 which resulted in his serving 10 years on Council and a term as the Mayor. Florence and Art enjoyed a wonderful life full of traveling, reading, curling, baseball (Go Blue Jays!), jazz music and dancing. Florence’s legacy is one of service and generosity—whether it was knitting for various charities, volunteering with the White Rock Elks or working at the Peace Arch Hospital information desk where she volunteered until her 90th year when she declared it was ‘time to retire’. She embraced life with enthusiasm, always looking on the bright side and remaining thankful for her blessings to the end. Her sense of humour and ability to find joy in life's moments were infectious, bringing light to those around her. Florence was a sister, aunt, grand-aunt, great-aunt, godmother, cousin and friend and we already miss her dearly. For all their friendship, care and attention, thank you to the staff and residents of Amica White Rock.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Florence’s honour on April 8, 2026, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
