Born the youngest of five children in Winnipeg, Manitoba, George was gifted with an agile mind and a desire to learn which aided his success in everything from blacksmithing to electronics. George found much success in the Cable Industry having businesses in both manufacturing and distribution. While George loved his work, he never forgot the value of his family. He took an interest in the sporting lives of his children and was active in his community through the North Delta Football Association. Instrumental in bringing sound and lights to the original football field in North Delta, he was also one of the authors of the constitution of the North Delta Football Association. Paraphrasing the great Sinatra, George always “did it his way”. Having been predeceased by his first wife, Barbara, George temporarily leaves behind a large brood of folks who keenly feel his loss including his second wife, Barbara (married 2003), his children Heather Crawford (Bill), Jeff, Corinne Smith (Mike), Doug, and Robert, his step-children Kim Lawton (Neil), Steve Darling (Jennifer) and Tara Darling (Craig Mason) and his beloved grandchildren Derek, Jerret, Bridgette, Rachael, Carson, Delaney, Hayley and Hunter. Knowing what a keen mind George possessed made it all the more difficult to see how Alzheimer Disease ravaged his body and mind. On behalf of George and his family, we send our love and gratitude to the staff at Northcrest Care Centre in North Delta. You were there with all of us through the battle and ‘thank you’ seems insufficient for your care and grace. A celebration of George’s life will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 2:00pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC in George’s memory along with a prayer that a cure be found. “Softly the leaves of memory fall, gently I gather and treasure them all. Unseen, unheard, you are always near, so loved, and so missed, so very dear”.
