Dad passed away on the evening of October 18, 2010 surrounded by his family at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC. Dad is survived by his partner Eileen Plante, brother Doug (Kerri) Shaw, sister Melba Hanson, his children Cheryl (Mike) Fisher, Evan Shaw, Gord Shaw, and Melissa (Al) Rooke-Green, grandchildren Samantha and Nicholas Fisher, Joey and Robert Shaw, and Stephen, Gregory and Jennifer Rooke-Green, Eileen's children Chris (Trish) Plante and Sandy Plante and her grandchildren Michael, Cameron and Aaron. Dad was born in Creston, BC and spent most of his formative years in Regina and Yorkton. His memories of Regina were fond ones of snow drifts higher than his house and playing outdoor hockey in the Regina Parks League. Dad moved to Yorkton in 1950 and spent his high school years playing football, hockey and baseball. He had a passion for accounting and after high school hitch hiked from Yorkton to Melville where there was an opening at Parker Quine. He roomed and boarded there and later moved into a suite he shared with other up and coming Chartered Accountants. Dad met mom (Vicky Lafrentz) on a trip to Regina where mom was a nursing student. They married in Weyburn in 1962. Dad received his CA designation in 1965 and shortly thereafter moved to Esterhazy where he headed Parker and Quine until 1975 and then started Gibson Shaw Skilnick and Kemp. Dad enjoyed his time with the firms but decided a change needed to happen and took a position within a Esterhazy construction company. Also at this time he became a board member of SGI. While in Esterhazy he enjoyed the local Kinsmen and K40 clubs, golf, camping at Kenosee Lake, barbeques and his hot tub until 1994, when they left Saskatchewan for BC. In 1998 like many others, Dad and Mom's marriage dissolved. Dad continued to enjoy life to the fullest travelling with family and friends. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and we of him. Dad continued to work doing a variety of tasks in the construction industry at speeds that only few 70 year olds could achieve. A small memorial was held in Surrey, BC on October 20, 2010. Dad will be missed by all who loved him.
