Greta Mae Slade was born October 19, 1935 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia,
the daughter of Thomas and Grace Slade (nee Strong) .
Greta and George married on November 26, 1953. George Hibbs predeceased her in July 2016. They were blessed to have been married for 62 years.
They were loving and self-sacrificing parents to 9 grown children: Karen, Karl, Tom, Betty, David, George, Barbara, Donna and Cheryl. She was known as mom, Grandma to 29, and GiGi (Great Grandma) to 50 plus!
Greta was a gentle, kind and caring mother, not just to her own family but to many over the years who called her "mom". She often “added” to their large family over the years by caring for foster children and many short term “adopted” children who just needed “family”.
Greta and her husband George were very involved in their church, Glad Tidings for many years. They also were the caretakers of the GT camp ground and spent many years helping keep things working and safe.
Greta loved to sew and knit and many people were blessed by her talents. Many of the grandchildren or great-grandchildren still have and cherish their blankets and other items that she made for them.
At this time the family will be having a private remembrance and no other service is planned.
Revelation 14:13 NCV
13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die from now on in the Lord.”
The Spirit says, “Yes, they will rest from their hard work, and the reward of all they have done stays with them.”
If you wish to leave a special remembrance, we will enjoy and read each one.
To my dearest family and friends,
I just wanted to say,
An angel came and took my hand,
And led me on my way.
She brought me here to heaven,
To dwell with the Lord above,
Where there is no more pain or sorrow,
Only happiness, joy and love.
I did not want to leave you,
I did not want to go.
I love you all so dearly,
More than you’ll ever know.
I know your heart is aching,
And your eyes are filled with tears.
But God has been so good to me,
In my life of …. years.
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry,
The way you did today.
For no one born unto the earth,
Was ever meant to stay.
But don’t think of me as gone away,
We’re never far apart.
For every morning, noon, and night,
I’m right there in your heart.
The best advise that I could give?
Live each day as if your last.
You can’t change what you say or do,
Once they’re in the past.
Your time on earth is limited,
So be careful what you do.
Remember hugs and kisses,
Goodbyes and “I Love You”.
So now it’s time to say goodbye,
From Heaven far above.
But please always remember,
You have my eternal love.
And when it’s time for you to go,
Please do not be alarmed.
For I’ll be waiting patiently,
Right here, with open arms.
