I remember the late nights we spent at each other's houses working on school projects and randomly calling up the girl we liked.  I remember biking across town in the summer and grabbing the $1 unlimited refills at Kam Do.  I remember the trips to Cancun and Vegas  in our 20s where we shared so many great laughs together.

We shared so many great memories and experiences together, and you were always so full of positive energy and hilarious jokes, always bringing life everywhere you went.  It's hard to believe you've moved on so soon.  Sometimes life can be so unfair.  My brother, I miss you so much...

My condolences to Haoston's family and his daughter. The world took him away from us too son and he had so much life to give to his family, friends, and daughter. I know he'll be looking down at us and always with us in spirits. I'll never forget the memory of him taking me to the airport, talking about family, and connecting on morals. I would've never been able to meet such a great friend without our friend Danny. And I'm so grateful for the memories we created with all our friends ❤️❤️

I still remember at the end of that first LA trip how we seriously thought about cancelling our flight home to Vancouver and just staying longer. We even talked about moving to LA together. We came to our senses (surprisingly) and flew back — but that didn’t matter, because two months later we were back, living it up again. Thanks for hiking the Hollywood Trail with me — even though hiking was never your thing and you were out of breath after five minutes. Haha. I miss you brother.

“I thought about you. Love you brother. More than you know.”  

Those were some of the last words you ever said to me, and it breaks my heart knowing that you’re no longer here.

We knew each other since 2005 — our first year of high school together. We talked about life, girls, dreams. We made so many inside jokes. WJS, West Side, and 31 are just a few.

Of all my friends, no one else did I travel with as much as I did with you. I’m so fortunate to have explored the world with you. There was no one else I’d have wanted by my side. And we had so much more we wanted to see.

You always lived in the moment. We did everything together. If you wanted to do something spontaneous, I’d be there — and vice versa. We could always count on each other to show up. That’s just who we were.

Whenever I was going through tough times, you were always there for me — to listen, to talk, to give me a shoulder to lean on. You were my light when life was dark. I was there for you too, and it brings me peace knowing you knew you were loved and cared for — by me and by those closest to you.

“I got your back no matter what. As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.” You told me that just this past Christmas — and I’ll never forget it. We always picked each other up when one of us was down, and we celebrated every win together.

It was so inspiring to see you become an incredible father to Ikumi. Nothing mattered more to you than her. I hope one day I can be as amazing of a father as you were. And don’t worry — Ikumi will always be loved and protected.

I still think of you often and can’t fathom that you’re no longer here. Your positive energy, kind soul, and gentle heart are missed more than words can say. But I know you’re watching over me, making sure I’m happy and living life like you did — with no regrets.

I love you and I miss you so much.

I've known you since elementary school, and you never changed. You always had that signature calm, gentle, and kind energy that made everyone around you feel comfortable and welcome. I’ll truly miss you and your hilarious jokes. Thinking back, I’ll always admire your ability to see the best in others and to show such genuine love and warmth. We have talked about making plans for Ikumi and Taiyo to meet, and I still can’t believe their first time meeting will be under these heartbreaking circumstances. It doesn’t feel real but I’m so grateful we got to share the journey of becoming new parents together. 

You always had the best energy and saw the good in everyone. You left too soon. Your presence will be deeply missed, but your memory will always stay with us. Ikumi will grow up knowing how kind, funny, and loved her dad was.

Everyday I expect you to walk through the door, to hear your deep and loud "Hello!". I miss you so much and our babygirl misses her dada, our days aren't the same anymore, I feel completely lost without you. We had so many plans, we were going to add another baby to our family and it breaks my heart that we don't get the chance to do that now or anything else that we had planned for our future. Ikumi is the spitting image of you and I am so happy that she is, she's a constant reminder of the love we shared for one another. Thank you for all the unconditional love you showed me, Ikumi, and my other daughter that you loved as your own. You were an amazing boyfriend, step-dad, and father.

I am so sorry to hear the passing of Haoston, my deepest condolences to the Chang Family. Haoston was always helpful and had a caring goodness to him, it was always a pleasure to work with him  and he will be missed.

You were such an important part of my life. I’m sad this chapter has come to an end, but I’m beyond grateful that we were able to help write a few pages in each other's stories. You were always a trusted confidant, loyal to our friendship, and I’m so thankful we shared a brotherhood together.

You always lifted me up. You used to tell me I was a source of inspiration for you, but as I write this, I’m reminded that it was your open, caring heart that truly inspired me—to be a better son, a better friend, a better brother, and a better father.

I'm so glad we got to share a meal together recently, and that I was able to tell you how proud and happy I am for you. We really did start from the bottom. We broke bread together, shared deep conversations about life, our purpose, and the importance of kindness to those around us.

We could sit in complete silence and still have a great time. It was always a battle to see who would go home first—and I always lost. You were always down for a good time. I could count on you to be there, to stick by me even when I didn’t feel like doing something. We were more alike than we even realized… except I didn’t have the dad jokes like you did. You loved those dad jokes. I feel like it was your final mission in life to become a father, just so you could share those dad jokes in their ultimate form.

You were a great dad. And Ikumi will always be surrounded by love.

The world deserved more of you.

I’ll come see you from time to time and give you updates on life—just like we always used to catch up. I know you’ll be listening.

“You simply cannot make epic memories with basic people.” That caption you wrote for the SF trip says everything about who you were—someone who brought genuine energy, kindness, and realness that made every moment better. From boat parties and white elephant nights to exploring the city, and even doing pushups and dips to get ready before going out — you lifted the vibe and made sure everyone felt included. I’m grateful for the moments we shared and the memories you helped create.

You’ll be missed, but never forgotten. Rest in paradise my friend.

Your passing cuts deeply, and though you left too soon, you left a remarkable impression while you were here. I’ll never forget that you possessed one of the warmest and kindest personalities and usually had a joke ready, so much that I can’t remember a conversation with you where we weren’t smiling or laughing. “I can’t believe we have to actually be adults now!” - this was the last message you sent me in our conversation about being new dads. I’m glad we got to have this magical life experience at the same time and share our experiences with each other. You were an amazing friend that was always cheering us on and seeing the good in us. I still remember the first time I met you. I wasn’t sure what to expect—seeing you with full arm tattoos and that serious look on your face. But as soon as you spoke and smiled, your warm energy came through so clearly. You always made time to hang out whenever I visited Vancouver. It’s still hard to believe I just saw you in March. Even harder to process how someone so full of life could be gone so soon. Hope your family can stay strong in this hard time and you’ll still look over them.
