Irene was born in Calais, Alberta and passed away in White Rock, BC on June 16, 2022, just short of eight years after her husband George, and eleven years after her first child and daughter Dianna. She is survived by three daughters, five sons, and numerous grandchildren and greats.
The words of love to Irene from her family would echo many of the descriptions attributed to
George. Feisty, strong, proud, always there, best friend, the cornerstone of the family. There
was always a welcome and a cup of coffee with a snack.
She was an avid lover of animals and they also had a place at the table…A tiny lady with a
fierce determination. She stretched the food for her large family during the tough times, and
there was always a dessert even if she could only afford jello. When the salmon was brought
home after George’s fishing run, we would stay out of the kitchen as knives and guts were
flying and boiling glass jars were prepared for the canned sockeye. Woe to anyone in the way
she was a force to be reckoned with.
She laughed at her kids rough and tumble ways, and even when they were inappropriate, she
laughed and laughed. She seemed proud of their wild personalities.
How we have missed her, and now even more. Fly with the angels, make Dad a pot of your
famous coffee, redecorate the heavens with Dianna, and cuddle all your precious pets as they
come running to greet you. We will watch for you in all the earthly things you love. We will
remember your ways, your face, your spirit, always.
