IN LOVING MEMORY

Jack passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, in South Surrey, BC, at the age of 87. He was born on December 7, 1937, in Kimberley, BC.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris Dicken. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jennifer, and their five children: Brian (Jackie), Kevin (Natalie), Chris (Alison), Jeff (Emily), and Janna (Matt). Jack was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Sarah, Mya, Ashlynn, Elizabeth, Amaya, Keegan, Emmett, Bowen, Cole, and Mila.

Jack lived a full and joyful life surrounded by family, friends, and a community that loved and respected him.

Jack spent his early childhood in Kimberley before moving with his family to White Rock, BC, in 1947. As a young boy, he embraced the coastal lifestyle—spending countless hours jumping off the pier, camping on the beach, and sharing carefree adventures with his friends. These formative years helped shape the warm, fun-loving spirit that remained with him throughout his life.

He began his career with Marshall Wells, selling hardware across Northern BC—from Burns Lake to Prince Rupert. In 1964, he pursued further education at Vancouver City College, later transferring to the University of British Columbia, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts and a year of teacher training. Jack went on to teach Grades 6 and 7 at Ray Shepherd Elementary in the Surrey School District, where he spent 28 years. He was greatly appreciated by his students, colleagues, and the school community—not just for his dedication, but for his kind and supportive nature. Jack made his students feel confident and cared for, and he left a lasting impact on many lives.

Beyond the classroom, Jack had a love for curling and was a long-time member and organizer of the Teachers’ League. He also co-owned and operated a fishing lodge at Glimpse Lake for seven years and found great joy in traveling and spending time at Deka Lake and Mayne Island.

Jack will be remembered for his kind heart, generous nature, and unforgettable laugh. He had a gift for connecting with people and bringing warmth and humor into every room he entered. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, www.pahfoundation.ca, in lieu of flowers.
