John peacefully passed away on August 22nd, 2019. Survived by his wife Nancy of 57 years, his sister Lenora Nomeland and his children Janice (Chris), Heather (Jeff), Scott, Andrea (Neall), Eric, Patti, Clayton (Jolene), Preston (Jordie) and Elliott (Melissa), Laurin (Eric), Krystal and Alana as well as numerous grandchildren.
John and Nancy raised their kids in Ladner and North Delta where he was involved in music and the NDP. John played the string bass in symphonies, bands and musicals all over the mainland and Vancouver Island.
John was known for his contributions to the communities where he lived. He was an NDP member, who spent numerous hours volunteering in all capacities, his favorite being, calling people to remind them to vote and see if they needed a ride to vote. He also belonged to many orchestras, New Westminster Symphony, Delta Band Concert, Nanaimo Orchestras, and quartettes. He was in the orchestra for many Musicals played all around the mainland including Metro Theatre and a member of the Musicians Union. He belonged to the Foster Parents Association and was a recipient of awards for being an outstanding Foster Parent in BC. His Foster children were always treated as his own children.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel (14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, BC).
