John was one of the first people that I met on my arrival in Guyana in 1963 and we maintained contact over the years since then,although rarely living in the same country at any one time. He had a cheerful view of life, with a particularly British sense of humour and I valued the friendship and will miss him greatly.
I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and especially to Ragna on their
sad loss.
