Born into a pioneering family in September of 1925 Joseph Peters West spent his youth in the Cariboo of British Columbia, the Sechelt Inlet and a burgeoning Vancouver. He survived the Depression, fought courageously with the Seaforth Highlanders in World War Two, then returned home to build the prosperous country we know today. Joe rose through the ranks of BC Hydro to become the Senior Project Engineer for the Peace River dam all the while mastering oil painting and wood carving. He built everything: boats, cranes, cabins, docks, locks, electric motors, cub packs, machines that unpacked, machines that we could not understand and two things that we could; an affectionate family and a successful marriage.
Joe is predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth Phyllis and five siblings, May, Dick, June, Art and Rosemary. He is survived by his sister Sunny, sons Jeffery and Martin with wives Megan and Nancy, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In all respects, our father’s life was a rich collage of courage, dedication and love. Our lives were happier around him and the nation is better because of him.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC.
