I worked with Kerry as a social worker at St. Paul's Hospital before she moved to Ireland.  I have fond memories of her and have mourned her death deeply.  We had some good laughs together!

Thinking of you Kerry as we travel down through the Frence Alps. I recall your love of nature and lots of outdoor activities including horse riding and skiing. You spoke of hiking in the mountains above Vancouver and skiing in the Whistler ski resort. We shared a love of  skiing and I was amazed when you described skiing in jeans. 

I also recall sharing a hotel room and bottle of Prosecco with you Kerry. We nearly missed the party getting caught up in  the chat and laughs.

I only heard today that Kerry has left us.    My sincere condolences to Kerry's family and all who loved her.

Kerry and I shared an office at St. Paul's Hospital when we were both working as social workers on the Renal Unit there, before she left to move to Ireland.   We both disliked record-keeping, I remember (this was before computers came along to help out), and struggled hard and often unsuccessfully to keep our records up to date.   It became a bit of a standing joke!  At the time she was also under pressure to finish her thesis for her MSW.  

 It is certainly the case that Kerry always worked with patients with a great deal of gentle compassion.

 I knew that her love of music was an important part of her and, of course, played a huge role in her desire to spend time in Ireland.

When she returned to B.C. she made contact and  drove in to Vancouver on a couple of occasions to meet with me and a mutual friend and former co-worker. She was so pleased at having found an apartment which provided easy access to beautiful surroundings, where she could enjoy walking, and I was happy for her.

Kerry has left us too early, but I know she will live on in our memories.

To Kerry family iam so sorry for your loss.I meet Kerry alot of years ago through her love of music and then she moved to our village in Feakle I used to meet her queuing up with her cushion in her hand outside the chruch for the Friday night concert at our Feakle festival.I helped her to find a home for her two cats before she left Ireland.She was a kind gentle lady who always had a smile on her face.R.I.P Kerry










It's remarkable that so many people have similar stories of Kerry's kindness, joie de vivre and good-heartedness. I am also a social worker and had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with Kerry in the past 3 years while we worked in the specialized seniors' clinic here in B.C.  I watched her in action while she consoled grieving caregivers, de-escalated angry clients, called people after her hours to ensure their safety, and joked around with what I can only imagine is a touch of Irish wit. 

We realized soon enough that we were also neighbours in our seaside community and bumped into each other at restaurants overlooking our beautiful Pacific Ocean, health-food grocery stores (no, Kerry, I didn't like the fully sprouted grain bread!) and introduced her to my fuzzy Keeshond. Kerry loved this small community and talked quite a bit about how happy she was to live here now, being able to take long walks in the forest trails behind her home with rays of sunlight filtering through the evergreens, thoroughly enjoying that she was literally steps away from the beach (I included a picture of the beach near to her home for those overseas to enjoy :) ).  She talked a lot about her friends and colleagues in Ireland to the point that I feel I know them. She also kept her family as the main priority in her life - she loved with such a big heart. 

I worked with Kerry in the Specialized Seniors' Clinic that she worked at before going off on sick leave. I feel that anyone whose life Kerry touched was both fortunate and privileged. Her patients were her 'world' and she did all that she could to advocate for them and ensure they were supported as best as they could be. She put in way more hours then she could ever be paid for, but she did not care...for her, it was about her patients. I have been in healthcare for 30 years and Kerry was the most devoted and conscientious social worker that I have ever worked with.  As a colleague, she was kind, caring, thoughtful and always remembered personal details that made you feel that she really listened and cared. She led the social committee for our clinic and made sure special occasions were recognized for each team member. Christmas 2018, Kerry led efforts to collect money to create personalized gifts for the patients of ours that were in need and lonely.  She has touched so many lives in a very personal way and she will be missed by many.

Always a lovely caring, supportive and generous influence in me and my sisters life. Was a dear family friend to all of us and will be missed greatly! I will always remember the kind calls and messages, encouragement, cards, gifts and phonecalls throughout my life!

Kerry was my friend and colleague at the Senior’s clinic.
She lived by the Golden rule to treat others the way she would want to be treated.
Kerry was kind,gentle,compassionate and always worked above and beyond expectations. She never said an unkind word about anyone.
She was friendly and genuinely cared about all who crossed her path. This was evident by the number of people from other clinics who got to know her by chatting in the lunch room.
Her client ‘s  still call and ask for her even after her retirement. She was a wonderful Social Worker.

She was our Birthday planner, and if it was your special day, your work station was decorated with streamers and there was a special treat at lunch. We called her our “angel”,and perhaps she was one, unaware.

Kerry loved family,friends,horses,
music, books and funky boots.
She was spiritual and would often steal away to the woods near her home to play her singing bowl and breathe in the energy she experienced in nature. She also loved her walks on the beach.

I will miss her here, but am comforted by many warm memories and hope to one day meet again. I am a better person for having known her.

Dear Kerry, 
Always turning events into occassions  - whether it be queueing for the best spots at Feakle concerts; 
staying in a hotel just half an hour away to make the most of a music festival; 
celebrating birthdays with cocktails in Barcelona;
 or homemade paella at mine ;
 the fond embarrassment when you would produce candles or chocolates or balloons to mark an event in the Rowan Tree;
 the terror of a work call  from you when you would gently but firmly leave no stone unturned to get the best outcome for the children in your care.
Hoping you are at eases somewhere beautiful  now Kerry, full of colour and harps and butterflies, a fat cat on the doorstep and birds out the window , and with time to wear your beautiful dresses and enjoy a Big Girl's Glass of Wine.

Kerry was one of my mum’s closest and longest friends, and I feel so incredibly lucky to have had her as a godmother for the past 22 years. I have many wonderful memories with her, throughout my life. When I was still living at home in Victoria, she stayed with us a few different times and she was always such a kind force of energy; always genuinely interested, positive, and supportive of myself and other family members in whatever stage of life we were in or what we were pursuing. I was always intrigued at her adventurous nature, like when she decided to move to Ireland and work there, and I also admired and respected how devoted she was to her career as a Social Worker and helping those she worked with. Kerry was a lovely, kind-hearted, compassionate, warm, and generous person and I feel so lucky to have had her in my life for as long as I did. She will be missed by many. Rest In Peace Kerry, thank you so much for everything. ❤️

Her little tokens and chocolates were always shared and received with gratitude when life became hectic.  She gave a 110% to  families and young people, all so fortunate to have  had Kerry as their social worker.  She worked tirelessly to achieve the best outcomes possible for them.

Kerry you were an inspiration to so many children in clare Ireland . You will be remembered fondly.

Kerry was one of my very closest friends.  I met her in Montreal in 1981 at university, and we became fast friends.  Among other things, I believe that Montreal was the origin of Kerry's life-long love of French croissants and strong coffee.  When I moved to Vancouver in 1984, Kerry having already returned to her West Coast home, she was the only person I knew.  Her warm welcome was unforgettable.  We became roommates and shared many "capers,"--as Kerry liked to called adventures involving red wine--and we also supported each other through the inevitable ups and downs of young adult life.  Kerry was that steadfast, reliable, caring friend, always there to listen without judgment.  Our friendship continued over the years when Kerry became a favourite "auntie" to both my son Linden and godmother to my daughter Aeda.  She had a generous heart for everyone in my life including my parents, my partner Mike, and his children.  Kerry liked to bring the perfect, thoughtful gift for everyone, frequently accompanied by chocolate in some form and hand-written cards, and she continued to do this throughout her life despite being chastised for spending too much money on us.  Throughout the years I gained a deep respect for Kerry's exceptional skills as a social worker and her steadfast advocacy for children and families.  Kerry bravely returned to her roots in Ireland for several years, where she created a life of music and deep friendships; I was lucky to visit her there once.  I can't deny that we were  selfishly delighted when  Kerry returned to Canada a few years ago,   My last evening spent Kerry was at the end of October 2019 when I attended my first writers' conference in Vancouver; it was just like to Kerry to throw her support and excitement behind my new adventures in creative writing.  I miss you so much, Kerry, but your light still shines around all of us whose lives you touched.  We are so much better for it. Heartfelt condolences to Shawn, Katie & Bready.    

Kerry came to work in Co.Clare in 2001 and worked as Social Worker in Kilrush initially.  She was a very decent woman and I don't ever recall her showing animosity to anyone. She was a supportive member of staff.   I am saddened to hear of her death and wish her eternal rest.  
Life is so short and I often think of the line in the Psalm which says "Make us know the shortness of life that we may gain wisdom of heart".


I was lucky to have worked alongside Kerry for over 10 years in Co. Clare Ireland. She was a kind hearted lady, always had a smile and was so genuine and supportive to a newly qualified social worker. She was adored by all the children & families she worked with. I will miss u Kerry and always remember your happy Friday emails. Rest in peace my friend

I was so sorry to hear the news that Kerry has passed away. I enjoyed working with Kerry for many years on the Children in Care team, in Ennis, Co.Clare. She was the kindest, hard-working and most caring social worker I've ever known. She always gave above and beyond for the children and young people she worked with, always making sure their voices were heard and giving the most important thing she could, her time. I will remember her kindness, she always had a smile and a kind word for me, as we shared offices on the 3rd floor in Riverhouse. I remember fondly sticking my head in to say hello to her and Simone, on my way in or out. She loved music and spending time with friends and was really missed when she moved home to Canada. I offer my sincere condolences to her family and friends at this time. Rest in peace Kerry 

I am so very very sorry to have heard the news of Kerry’s passing. Having worked alongside Kerry for many many years in Co Clare, Ireland, I can say with confidence that I have rarely known a kinder, more selfless person than Kerry. She was a lady, of the highest order. In her work, the children were her absolute priority and she never let work systems and expectations get in the way of that. Outside work, her love of music was far known. Rest In Peace dear Kerry, and my deepest condolences to her family. Xx

My sincerest sympathy to Kerry's family, she spoke so fondly of you all and really looked forward to her trips back to Canada. It is with great sadness I hear of her early  passing. She is remembered with great fondness by all of us in Co Clare Ireland who worked beside her for so many years . It is only in recent weeks Kerry was remembered as an exceptional social worker by a former colleague in management who recounted the outstanding service she gave to children while living in this area. Kerry and i did our interview to secure our posts with the then Health Service Executive Mid West  the same day. We also purchased our homes around the same time and had many a chat re the trials and tribulations of it all. Kerry loved her music and her harp guided by the greatest of Clare musicians , I can visualise her now  singing on high with her harp accompanied by so many renowned musicians from this area who have also journied to that special place on high. Rest in peace Kerry and thank you for the special memories which are treasured.  Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
