DESMOND, Margaretha (Matzner), (AKA Margaret). It is with deep sorrow that the family of Margaret Desmond announces her peaceful passing on the morning of Saturday, April 25th, 2015, at the age of 89. Margaret was born in Saskatchewan on March 4, 1926 before relocating to Clearbrook with her family at around the age of 8. In her younger years she worked on the family strawberry farm, which eventually turned into a dairy farm, and in her teenage years she would commute weekly to the Vancouver area where she worked various jobs. While working one of her jobs at the White’s Diner, she met the love of her life and husband, Jack Desmond (b.1924-d.2011). The two of them started a family and lived in various communities throughout the lower mainland before eventually settling down in the White Rock area, which they have since called home. Margaret never lost her farming roots and her and Jack were able to share the pleasures of that lifestyle with their children and grandchildren. Her talent in the kitchen was something she was always trying to pass down to the younger generations when she wasn’t filling her loved ones tummies with cookies (even if we had to search for them first) and baked apple betty. Her love of birds, plants and flowers and her talent for getting anything to grow, was a skill that was admired by all, as it appeared she could probably get a rock to sprout flowers. Margaret was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, and grandma/nana, who is lovingly survived by her sisters Nellie (Don) and Rose; her brother, Leo (Alayne); her sons: Tom (Debbie) and their children Wayne (Krista) and Chrystal (Keith), Terry and his children Michael and Daylin (Dyllon); her daughters: Leanne (Gus) and their children Niki, Jesse, and Garrett (Sam), and Marnie (Martin) and their children Natalie, Cody (Heidi), Cassie, and Martina. She is also survived by her two great grandchildren Carter and Darcy, whom she loved dearly. Her caring friend, Keme, as well as several nieces and nephews, also survive her. Margaret was loved immensely by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. The gardens in heaven will be lucky to have your green thumb up there, we will miss you! A mass of Christian burial is being held at the Good Shepherd Church with Father Dion, 2250 - 150th Street, Surrey, B.C. on May 8th, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with a viewing from 10:00-11:00 prior to Mass. Burial site at Gardens of Gethsemini following the ceremony.
