Born in Edmonton on January 17, 1947, to parents Thorvaldur and Helen Asmundson, Marilyn lived in both Calgary and Edmonton in her early years. Her mother passed away in Marilyn’s early years. Her father eventually remarried, and the family settled in Calgary permanently after his death. She attended William Aberhart High School before moving on to Nursing school at Foothills Hospital where she graduated in 1969. She worked in the hospital, then doctors’ offices and medical clinics in the years they lived in Sherwood Park. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona for a short time and then to Delta in 1987. Marilyn became active in Newcomers, Bon Appetit, Canasta and VBBCE (very best bridge club ever).
Marilyn and her husband Patrick enjoyed travelling the world with their close friends and Marilyn liked to be involved in helping to organize the trips. Even as her health deteriorated, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Her close friends continued to be a strong source of support up to her passing.
Donations in Marilyn’s memory to the bccancerfoundation.com would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers.
