With immense sadness, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mark Trudel, 66 years old, at home in Surrey, BC, on December 9, 2025. He was a beloved son, brother, partner, father, stepfather, grandfather, nephew, cousin and friend.
Mark was born in Drayton Valley, Alberta, on October 20, 1959. The Trudel family moved to Calgary in 1966. There, Mark completed his school years, graduating from St. Francis High School in 1977.
Tinkering with vehicles and car parts in his family’s driveway was Mark’s favorite past-time, beginning in his junior high school years. We were therefore not surprised when he pursued a Diploma in Heavy Duty Mechanics at SAIT, graduating in 1979. He worked for several companies in Calgary over his 40-plus year career. He continued working in Surrey, BC, and retired in June 2024. After retiring, he continued tinkering around the garage and helping neighbours fix their cars, pressure washers, lawn mowers and anything that had a motor.
Mark and his former wife Cheryle raised their two beloved children together: their daughter Rachel and son Nick. Mark and his current partner, Sandy, reconnected after having first met in their late teens in Calgary. Mark moved to Surrey in 2017 to be with Sandy, and they enjoyed the remaining years together. They returned in mid-November from an epic month-long trip to Asia with some friends and family.
Mark loved camping, fishing, hunting and golfing. He loved joking, laughing and teasing his family and friends. He also did well with impersonations. His smile was bright and captivating. He made several close friends in his life, starting in elementary school, whom he kept throughout the decades and whom he loved dearly.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Rene and Ona, along with several aunts and uncles. Mark leaves behind his treasured partner, Sandy Fong; his daughter Rachel (Graham, with son Asher); his son Nick (Brooklyn, with children Theo and Aria); his siblings Jody McKinnon (Ken); Shawna Trudel; Rev. Guy Albert Trudel (OP); along with Sandy’s children and grandchildren. His siblings thank Sandy and her family and friends for opening their arms to Mark and embracing him like family in Surrey during his years there.
Mark will be missed forever. A Catholic Mass will be held for Mark at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Dr NW Calgary) on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 1 pm, followed by light refreshments and a time to visit. Mark will be interred at Strathmore Cemetery with his parents.
