Our beautiful and beloved Patricia Anne Rand (née Rawlyk) passed away with loving family by her side on January 12, 2023 at the age of 83. She was known to all as Patricia, Patti, Patrice, Mum, Mumma, Mumsy, Grama & Auntie Pat. To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Dmetro, her brothers Buddy and Don and recently her sister Genevieve passed away in April.
Patricia is survived by her husband Neil (married 64 years), children, Karla (Richard), Brad (Sue), Kristy (Andrew) and her grandchildren, Michael, Julie, Alexander (Brittan), Liam & Garrett as well as her extended family and many wonderful friends. Patricia was born on June 30, 1938 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spoke fondly of her parents, her childhood and looked up to her older siblings. After graduating from Kelvin high school, she worked in the office at the department of Transport ATC. Then one day she met her sweetheart Neil and they were married in June of 1958, followed by a move to Richmond where her kids were born. Patricia was a proud mum to Karla, Brad & Kristy to whom she dedicated her life. Patricia’s energy and focus revolved around supporting and raising her family. She rooted for them, worried over and took care of them, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs.
Like many women on the home front, she had the opportunity to work and gained an interest in and understanding of business administration, finding joy in the many places she worked. Patricia kept busy and had a lifetime passion for learning and growing including things such as pottery, dance, music, yoga, night school, beach walks, gardening, baking, reading, singing, reiki, and painting classes.
After selling their longtime family home Neil and Patti moved to South Surrey where she spent many years volunteering with the Aquarius group of the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation. Patricia always had flowers in her home, loved entertaining and would always exclaim “let’s have a gathering”. Whether it was a Sunday dinner, family brunch, holiday meal, luncheon or dinner party, she welcomed all into her home for visits and meals. Once retired she and Neil enjoyed travelling and regularly visited Victoria, Maui, Palm Springs and especially loved their trip to Europe in 2008. A devoted Grama to her five grandchildren, she was always ready to help and was unfailingly supportive and optimistic. Patricia was a very big hearted, loveable, outgoing and passionate person who will be remembered for her love of conversation, stories of her youth and creating bedtime stories for her grandchildren. Her tenderness, loving nature and “power of positive thinking” will be remembered by everyone that knew her. She was a giver and found much joy in giving gifts including flowers, home baking and many hugs and kisses to those she loved. She was an amazing role model, wife, mother, Grama and friend to many.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held at 1:00-3:00pm on June 25th at the Richmond Golf & Country Club, 9100 Steveston Highway Richmond BC. In honour of our dear Patricia we encourage you to wear bright colours or her favourite colour blue. Donations to the Peace Arch hospital Foundation or Kidney Foundation of Canada BC Yukon Branch would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to all of the excellent staff at The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Lodge, as well as the SMH renal Unit for their wonderful care and kindness.
Within our hearts we always keep
A special place for you,
And try to do our best to live
As you would want us to.
As we loved you, so we miss you,
In our memory you are near;
Loved, remembered, longed for always
With the passing of each year.
