
Sue, Bob and their daughter Vanessa have been close friends since Vanessa and I worked together in Dawson Creek in 1997.  

 

I am sure Sue thought I kidnapped Vanessa as I kept Vanessa so busy her first week there she failed to call home to check in.  As time passed Vanessa and I worked together again in Prince George, Sue made me promise never ever to “help” and do any house renovations at Vanessa's place without Sue's direct and close supervision. Vanessa had gone home to Delta for Christmas and a friend and I decided to surprise Vanessa and remove this not so lovely flower wallpaper from one of the basement rooms.  What we did not realize until well into the “removal” was the wallpaper being attached to unpainted drywall which meant wallpaper and drywall paper came down in globs.  Sue spent a week retexturing the walls of the room and, to my relief,  it looked beautiful afterwards.  

 

I was fortunate to travel with the family to Mazatlan, Mexico and I am so thankful Sue picked the condo that was only 6 steps from the bar (I counted them carefully each night after the pina colodas or was it the margaritas that she introduced me to).  She also pain stakening agreed to go on a time share tour so Vanessa and I could get free boat and tour tickets.  A true mother's love if anyone has been to Mexico and fought off the time share people.

 

Sue was loving and caring that one night staying at her house, I crawled into bed only to” attacked” by some warm thing at my feet.  Jumping out of bed and ripping the covers off, I saw a heated beanie bag that Sue had placed in the foot of my bed for my comfort.  Sue was also a great cook and I will admit I will happily eat steak and kidney pie again if it tastes as good as she made it.

 

I was able to travel to Vancouver in June to see Vanessa and visit with Sue and Bob.  While in pain, she still maintained her smile and sense of humor that I loved.   She was loved so much by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

I loved working with Sue, she was my favourite manager. Even after I left she supported my future work and always greeted me smiles and a big hug. Truly, a great person and I am still thankful for her.

What an honor it is to have met Sue and to have enjoyed some time together.  I met Sue at Zumba class in Delta - she loved the music, the movement and the social aspect of the classes.  Soon Sue was driving out to my home studio in White Rock up to three times a week for more Zumba!  I was always amazed at Sue's ability to smile through the entire class - she loved it so much.  

Sue was always interested and engaged in life - what an awesome way to live.  I invited Sue to a ballroom dance event a few months ago during which I danced a dedication solo dance for her - I am so happy this worked out and that she enjoyed the evening - I certainly did and will remember it throughout the years.  I will miss her dearly and think of her often.

Our first visit to sue in Canada was a very memorable occasion.We arrived late afternoon and had much to catch up.Much later she said we would go to dinner
"its only up the road"It took what seemed ages and opened our eyes to the size of the country.
What courage she had to bring her young family 6000 miles to start a new life.
Several visits were to follow.sue took great pride in her new country and great joy showing it to us.
She was my baby sister and she had become a wonderful cheerful caring person.She love people and those she met at work and socially shared her heart.She never forgot her family in the UK,and was delighted to receive any news and photos.
Not enough time Sue.

Sue was my good close friend for the last 17 years.  We met at work in Tsawwassen and discovered we were neighbours.  We worked in a spacious office, too much room for so few people.  One day at work Sue began passing out in her office and a coworker noticed and called 911.  I wasn't aware of the situation, when the ambulance phoned to confirm and I said "ambulance? no, nobody from here called."  In the confusion that followed, Bernadette, who was very pregnant, drove Sue to Delta Hospital going the wrong way down 1 way streets in her panic to save Sue.  What a day and Sue received a pacemaker.  Later, much later, we laughed many times over the start to our friendship was the day I almost did her in.  Working with Sue made those days so much better. When we retired, we would venture out to the 4 corners of Vancouver and beyond, sometimes once a week with a different destination each time.  We also had marathon phone conversations talking til it was time to stop and get something done.  Lou and I went to Mexico with Bob and Sue.  Had a great trip with good company. Sue has done so much for me and for so many others.  She was special and as she touched each one of us, we need to spread that kindness of spirit to others and to quote Sue, "don't make a dock yard job of it."  Sue will live in my heart forever.

My friend,  I thought we would have more time.  Time for many more adventures,many more chats about birds and gardens and bees and cats....especially cats!  Many more shopping trips and girl trips and home decorating items to buy.  More hugs and laughs  and fun times.  I miss you and love you and until we meet again...Happy Trails Sue.  Love Deb O'Brien

The Pikes have been part of our family for over twenty years and have participated in so many of our celebrations and milestones.  Sue and Bob made us all feel special and loved.  Sue was always accepting of all of our interesting personalities....maybe we were one of her 'projects', as I know she had many.  I enjoyed all our special times and am sad there won't be more with her.  Sue and Bob have been such  generous, kind friends.  Sue even made Bob come to Nanaimo and work on my reno's!!  My husband Kevin has a special place in his heart for Sue as they spent many hours talking about Mason Bee's and composting.  Sue enjoyed spending time with our daughter Sadie and was so supportive of us when we became parents.  She always took care of her people.  We will miss you Amma Sue.

We have been so blessed to have Sue in our lives. To be such a great friend to my parents and to be someone I called my  aunt. To have always supported me and my family in so many endeavours.  Sue was always there for us and I have learned so much from you.

How lucky I have been to have the best friend ever in my life.  I admired Sue for so many of her wonderful qualities and Sue was like a shinning star in my life. Her star may have dimmed but it burns bright in my heart for all my days. 
Our family will be celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever. Love always Sue till we meet again.

My Darling Sue,
Your friends have talked about your sense of humor, your friendliness, your ability to teach and/or mentor, talk about anything to anybody – birds, gardening, computer stuff, dancing, recipes, crafts and of course work to mention a few, your laugh and your generosity. That is quite the list and it is not complete.
I want to talk about your generosity and your ability to attract people.
1. Mexican waiter was grilled by you for 4days and then you paid for one year of college so he could become an assistant teacher and secure a regular pay packet for his family.
2. A phillipino house boy on a cruise. He treats you well and makes you laugh at his stories – his reward you pay for a part of his upcoming wedding. Your reward is he sent you pictures of his bride and the wedding.
3. Mexico – downtown – a commotion in a shop and we discover a family is asking to store some food as their frig. had  blown  up  - a reconditioned frig. was delivered the same day.
Unrequested generosity. 

Now the main story – ability to engage strangers. 
We were in L.A. for  4/5 days  partly holiday and partly to meet up with Bryon and Les, very long time friends, who were having a 2 day layover while traveling from UK to NZ. The day before they arrived we toured the local area around the motel by foot and ‘big blue bus' ( public transportation) are usual mode of transport. Late afternoon we returned to the motel and changed for dinner, we had noticed a restaurant not far away with a BBQ ribs special. As it was still a little early we (sue) decided we needed more walking so we started off around a park which was also just down the road. The park was clean but there seemed to be a few homeless types hanging around. As we walked one of these people approaches and said to Sue “Mam can I have that cigarette when you have finished with it”. Sue looked at him and answers No, then opened her pack, of extra mild, and says “but you can have one of these, and don't call me Mam, I'm Sue”. The person introduced himself as Philippo and accepted a light for his cigarette, he took two deep pulls (drags for the UK) then looked at Sue and said “these are whoosie cigarettes Mam”. He stubbed out the cigarette and placed the butt into a tin he pulled from his pocket along with a collection he already had. As I watched I noticed a sharp pain in my side and looking down to find Sue's elbow buried in my ribs while her eyes were darting from me to Philippo and back again. I got the message and immediately took my cigarettes, King size regular, offered him one which he accepted, lit and seemed to enjoy. We sat at a park bench and enjoyed our smokes. Some four and a half hours later Sue had his life story, he said” goodnight and thank you” and drifted into the bushes to find a place to sleep while we headed off to find a fast food joint as the rib place was closed and I was out of smokes. Just another day in the life of Sue Pike.

My dearest friend Sue - I had been a member for awhile at the Zumba class when I noticed a friend sitting alone.  I introduced myself & asked if she was new to the class.  She said yes & I told her what a great class it was & she would have so much fun.  I also introduced her to the Instructor & this began a wonderful friendship between myself &  all our Zumba friends.  We shared many lunches/breakkies & just so many laughs.  I miss our times we shared together but know she is looking down at us all,  with that forever Sue smile!!   God has taken a great soul but our hearts remember she will always be with us.

It wsa a lucky day for the McKenzie/Ireland family so many years ago when Erin met Sue on the 'picket' line when they were on strike. I was told it was an instant connection and Erin wanted to get to know this interesting lady better. 

Sue has always been there for our family in good times and not so good times.  She always had some wise advice for us. We took it for granted that Sue would always be there for us. She was like another sister to us. I sometimes think that Sue didn't realize what an impact she had on all of us.

She was a kind and generous lady who was interested in everyone and everything. 

I had the pleasure of working with her as she covered our holiday time off at the doctors office when she retired. She was well liked by all the patients and staff.

I will remind everyone to be good to the birds,the bees and always remember to 'compost'. And when you see a hummingbird....it's a visit from Sue... I'm sure!

Sue & I met when we were 17 serving in the Royal Navy we been friends ever since, even though we now live miles apart you in Vancouver us in NZ

Sometimes 6 to 8 years before we saw each other but the conversation started as though was the day before we had left & went for hours!

My lasting memory was the Night of the Chief Petty Officers Ball Sue was going on 1st date with Bob!

Hey getting you ready was Manic even doing to the false nails!(Why did you bite your nails)

This was 50years ago & we have always manage to keep in touch. Sue looked after both our boys Justin & Lyndon when starting their overseas adventures

as young men!

Even making Lyndon's wedding September 2001 the never to forget the 09/11

Sue been such  a huge part of our lives we shall never forget you , always remember you when Bryan is playing FreeCell (  you hooked him on that) when I am making our breakfast Muesli

Sue was the laid back down to earth auntie that everyone would like to have.  You could sit down with her and talk about absolutely anything, she made you feel relaxed. Although Sue was many miles away we felt very close to her. When our little Jake was born Sue was thrilled and spoke of him as if he was her own grandchild, she called herself Amma Sue. We sent many pictures of him growing and like to think it gave her a smile in her final months. Sue will be greatly missed by us all.
