OBITUARY

Sylvia Kornela Jones

November 15, 1936August 8, 2019

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom and grandmother, Sylvia. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at the age of 82.

Sylvia was born in The Pas, Manitoba, and moved to Victoria at the age of 6. She lived with her family on a farm and took Ukrainian traditional dancing and accordion lessons. She carried this interest in her ancestral culture with her throughout her life. In high school she met the love of her life, Gary (Butch as he was called). The two were wed after graduation, and through their marriage they were blessed with their daughter Holly, and later, two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many years of love and happiness.

Sylvia is predeceased by her parents John and Sophie Slusarenko, and husband Gary. She is survived by Holly (Trevor), grandchildren Melissa (Isaac), Evan (Sarah), great-grandchild Elizabeth, sister Sonia, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel (14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, BC) at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 7th. We encourage all those who knew her to join us in celebrating Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC. We would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Imperial Place for their compassionate care during these last two years.

Bill and I were deeply sadden when we heard that Sylvia had passed away. We had the pleasure of getting to know this beautiful, kind and generous lady when we volunteered at St Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Surrey. I always remember her sense of humor, her willingness to help, and how much we enjoyed her company.
Our deepest condolences to you all on your loss. She will always be missed by us.
May she Rest In Peace .
