May 4th, 1929 – September 1st, 2015
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather (‘Poppy’) passed away suddenly at the age of 86. Larry is survived by his wife Margaret (Donaldson), his three sons Ross (Michelle), Garth (Donna), and Ian (Dawne), and his pride and joy, his six grandchildren Shawn, Claire, Spencer, Dana, Eric, and Sterling as well as his sister Marcia Perry.
Early on, he ventured into various careers before finding his passion in education working firstly in Vancouver and then at the Richmond School District. Larry served as the Director of Continuing Education, a School Board Trustee as both Vice Chairman and Chairman, was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Douglas College, and was also a member of the Richmond Public Library Board. He held a Masters Degree from the University of British Columbia and belonged to the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge.
Larry had many pastimes such as hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved to cycle in the Richmond area and often stopped at YVR to watch the planes. In his most recent years he enjoyed travelling with his family; as soon as one trip was over he was planning the next adventure. He wanted nothing more than to enjoy the company of those closest to him; making witty remarks at happy hour, watching his grandchildren play sports, but above all spending as much time with his friends and family as possible.
If Larry has touched your life in any capacity, a celebration of life will take place at the family home on Saturday, September 19th at 2pm. Contact (604) 543-5956 for more details. As Larry was an avid storyteller, we would love to hear any stories of him you have to share.
