Albert R. Mezzanotti, age 96, of Fall River, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of Ann R. (Lyell) Mezzanotti to whom he had been married for 51 years.
Born in Fitchburg, he was the son of the late Albert and Helen (DiConza) Mezzanotti.
Al graduated from Thomas High School, Fitchburg Teacher’s College and obtained a master’s degree from Rhode Island College. A proud Veteran of the United States Army, Al served his country during World War II. He worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Warwick Vets Memorial High School for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Al was well known for the advanced projects from scratch that he did with his students including several go-carts, mini bikes, a farm tractor, several sailboats, a dune buggy, several guitars, etc… Albert was the first teacher in RI to have freshman boys take a half year of home economics and freshman girls take a half year of shop. This was a very progressive curriculum over 55 years ago. Albert strongly felt young men should know how to cook some basic meals and young women should know how to use basic hand tools to accomplish general chores around the house.
Al obtained his Pilot’s license at 16 and loved to fly. During his service in the Army while in Japan, once his command discovered he was a pilot they had him fly occasionally using an Army Piper Cub. After retirement, Albert volunteered for Angel Flight of New England serving as a pilot and later as a co-pilot well into his 80’s.
His Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al’s honor may be made to Angel Flight NE, 492 Sutton St., North Andover, MA 01845. https://www.angelflightne.org/
