
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Augusto and Josephine (Oliveira) Silva, he was a Veteran of the Coast Guard during World War II. He was employed as the Commissary Manager at the Newport naval Base for 25 years until his retirement and prior to that he had worked in the textile industry in Fall River in the 1950’s.
Alfred will be known for his positive, upbeat attitude and his sense of humor. He was “Mr. Fix It” and enjoyed visits to Foxwoods Casino. But most of all he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by: a son Alfred A. Silva and his wife Sandra of Rochester, MA; two grandsons Jeffrey Silva and his wife Angela Cough of Seattle, WA and Aaron Silva and his wife Susan of Oxford, CT; four great grandchildren Cali Rose, William James, Samantha and August Silva; a sister Dorothy Silva-Sylvia and her husband John of Coventry, RI and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Silva was also the brother of the late Frank and Raymond Silva.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 12pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 10am to 12pm prior to his service. Burial will be in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
