Anthony P. Sarmento, of Swansea, passed away at home on Thursday, June 3, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Mary Rose (Knapp) Sarmento, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antone P. and Anna (Mello) Sarmento.
Anthony was a United States Army Veteran, where he played drums in the 76th Army Band. He later earned an Associate’s Degree from Johnson and Wales University. Mr. Sarmento was the owner and operator of City Hall Electrical Supply in Fall River for many years.
A skilled and talented musician, Tony played the piano and the drums. He also loved composing, recording and playing his own music.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three children, Julie Labreche of Swansea, David Sarmento and his wife Carolyn of Dighton and Karen Sarmento of Swansea; three grandchildren, Spencer Sarmento-Jarabek, Jacob Labreche and Victoria Sarmento; one great-grandchild, Caroline Hall; a sister-in-law Catherine Covert of Falmouth and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late William and Edward Sarmento.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 8:00 am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. John of God Church, 1036 Brayton Ave., Somerset. Visitation from 8:00 to 9:15 am in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial will be private.
